These are the automatic qualifiers for the 2018 NCAA volleyball tournament

How the Draw Could Go?
Facts to consider:
Stanford hasn 't lost since the 1st weekend at BYU.
BYU 1st lost came to LMU on their last road trip.
Texas is shy of big wins and lost to Stanford twice and a bad lost to Kansas.
Illinois only played Minnesota once and lost, and splits with Nebraska and Wisconsin. Their only big wins are in the Big 10.
Wisconsin boosts of big wins over Texas, Illinois and Nebraska.

How the seeds could look!
#1 Stanford: Their schedule and wins speak for themselves.
#2 Minnesota: Undefeated Big 10 schedule and early losses to Pac 12 teams
#3 BYU: marked wins over Stanford, USC and Marquette. A weaker
conference but only 1 loss for the season is impressive.
#4 ? Illinois or Texas
This poses a problem for the committee, Texas really doesn 't register any big wins with double losses to Stanford and a loss to Wisconsin. They play in a weaker conference and a bad loss to Kansas.
Illinois, had a weak pre conference schedule with only one match up with Minnesota. Early losses to Nebraska and Wisconsin but a strong finish.
#4 Illinois: Conference wins standout as determining factor

The Bracket is finalized! The committee does well; however, took a big chance…..

The seeds are pretty solid and the bracket relatively balanced. The NCCA is betting that
BYU will host regionals but with the LMU loss and recent injuries is that a good bet? What if BYU loses to Utah? Who will be the regional host? Utah or the # 5 seed Texas? What will the fans do that have already booked their tickets?

Missed seeding? Wisconsin has a win over Texas and plays in the Big 10. Texas doesn’t register and power 5 wins. If the two seeds were reversed it would have strengthened the BYU regional side of the bracket and bring one more Big 10 team to the Stanford side of the bracket making the brackets more balanced. A proven NCCA tested Texas team wouldn’t have been disadvantaged by playing a, non-tournament, experienced Illinois team.

A case could be made that Penn State should have been rewarded for their strong finish and therefore, flipped with Michigan.

This year does not have a clear victory so if a team gets hot they could be the surprise NCCA D1 Champions. Hang on to your hats. It’s going to be fun!

College: Intriguing NCAA Tournament First-Round Match-Ups

It’s time! Let the fun begin. The Sunshine State Challenge will be wild! When friends play friends, it becomes very interesting. Injuries play a big factor in both matches. The first match, Florida versus Florida State at 4:30 EST will kick off the tournament. The teams meet once with Florida coming out on top 3-1. (25-22, 25-22 ,16-25, 25-19). However, we are picking an FSU victory. Florida’s struggling passing and the questionable health of outside hitter, Thayer Hall, will give FSU the edge they need to succeed. The second match will showcase the University of Central Florida and Florida Gulf Coast University. UCF’s Head Coach, Todd Nagenais, my former assistant and FGCU Assistant Coach, Danny Mahy, our longtime friend will duke it out. Both have already called asking for advice and both predict they will win, 3-1. I wish I could be there in person to heckle them both. The teams have met twice this season in UCF coming out on top both times. (25-16, 14-25, 25-21, 25-16) and( 25-15, 25-20, 25-18). FGCU enters the postseason as the champions of the ASUN while UCF are also champions of the AAC. FGCU boast a lineup lead by outside hitter, Cortney VanLiew and five seniors. They feel experience will carry them over the top. UCF will be led by the steady passing of Jordan Pingel and attacking of McKenna Melville . However, the switch to a 5-1 with the injury to Erin Olson may make rhythm difficult for UCF. Sorry, my bald brother, I am thinking a possible squeaker with FGCU coming out on top!
